Beep, Bib or…. erm…. Pip!!!

Hello folks.

Don’t ask me how, but this morning the team got talking about the noise your car horn makes when you press it. Politely spoken Bianca feels that you “beep your horn” - logical (and quite cute it has to be said), where as the Brummy contingent of the office - all of whom speak the Queens English - feel that you “bib your horn”. Correctamundo cries the crowd!!

However certain quarters of the office - namely Scoops and Slasher - feel that you actually ‘pip‘ your horn. PIP YOUR HORN!!! What the chuffin heck are they on about??? Admittedly they are from the East Midlands and so do have a number of…erm… interesting colloquialisms, but Pipping your horn is not one we’ve heard of until this day.

Is Scoops inventing words again? Any clarification on this would be very much appreciated.

A busy first week in blogsville…

Well folks. It’s been a busy first week in blog land - so busy in fact that I’ve not had time to write any blogs. So, I’m going to do a concise post of everything which happened last week and then I’m going to make a concious effort to blog away with gay abandon. So…

First I’ve got to thank a number of people who helped make this blog possible (I feel like I’m at the Oscars!!). I didn’t have a clue what to do but thanks to Fraser, James and Kieron and design and technical work from B and T-Bone, I’m now a fully fledged blogger! Cheers chaps.

Great New Supplier…

We’ve finalised a deal with a fantastic new supplier on Tuesday which will really help to enhance our product offering in a number of categories. We are very excited about this. Watch this space.

Stats, Stats and more stats!

As we grow as a company, we are trying to do things a little more scientifically at PB.HQ. I’ve therefore landed the task of trialling a number of Analytics packages. We are currently trialling Net Tracker and Web Trends, and have also had demonstrations from Omniture and Core Metrics. To be honest, all 4 packages have their relative merits and it’s now just about making the right decision based on cost and performance. Any tips/help would be much appreciated…

Project X

This is our top secret project which it has to be said is very exciting. I can’t say any more on the matter (said too much already) but as soon as I can divulge a little deeper I will do!

So, there we have it folks. A good first week in the World of blogging. I’ve got loads I’m hopefully going to post, but as with all things at the Mighty Box, if there’s anything you think we need to talk about, please don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

Meet the team…

As we’ll be discussing all things prezzybox I thought it only right if I introduced you to the team at PB HQ and told you a bit about each and every one of them (the bit they’ve been worrying about the most!!).
	Polly. Polly is head of PB Security. Amongst her roles are sleeping, eating and barking at horses.
	Zak - AKA Spreader. Well, what can I say? Other than being the face of the company ;-), I’m the chappie who tries to make sure everything is getting done that needs to be and everyone is moving in the same direction. The team will tell you that I spend time looking busy and play far too much stick cricket (I have to admit I’m addicted) but that’s obviously not the case. I love playing in my band and although I’m ageing (we’re the grandads of rock!!) I’ve still got illusions (or delusions!) of making it as a rock star!
	Barney AKA Judith Charmers. Notoriously the tightest man in the Midlands, it’s a good job that Barney looks after all of the company’s finances. He also is in charge of buying and therefore is responsible for the array of goodies we have on the site. If you’re looking to email Barney then you best make it quick. He’s due to go on one of his plethora of holidays in a couple of weeks and is due to return in 2009! You’ll start to see that Prezzybox is a family concern. Barney is my brother and is one of many family members who works here…
	Bianca - AKA Bumshaker AKA the wife. Bianca (my missus) is the creative genius behind the site design and everything creative we do. She’s the reason why the site looks so nice and clean. She also helps Ben with a lot of the site marketing and is responsible for all of the external creative. She’s a keen music photographer and you can see some of her work here. Bianca is probably the only person who won’t suffer any micky taking on the blog as if I did I’d have nobody at home to do all of the washing, cleaning and cooking etc.
	Tony - AKA T-Bone - is the company techy. It’s Tony’s job to make sure everything works and to build all of the splendid features. T-Bone is also a stand up comic. In fact he’s in the only comedy duo I’ve seen with two straight men.
	Ben - AKA - Gunit - has replaced me and now looks after all of the company’s online marketing, and therefore deals with everybody from Affiliates through to marketing agencies. Ben is a keen sportsman (currently suffering from a broken ankle) and fancies himself as a gangster rapper, with Goldie Looking Chain being amongst his favourite groups.
	Sharon AKA - Scoops is head of Customer Services at the Mighty Box and also looks after all of the company’s off-line marketing. Scoops loves playing World of Warcraft (weirdo alert!!) and also loves great Rock Music (such as the Mighty Apollo). She’s also got a small menagerie (which before you ask means she’s got lots of pets!).
	Cherry - AKA - Chezza works alongside Barney in the buying dept and is head of Video Production (coming soon to PB!). She’s a keen script writer and has recently made a short film which is coming out soon. She’s also my Sister ‘Out-Law’ and is the mother of my favourite nephew Sonny.
	Jean - AKA - Slasher looks after all of the company’s accounts and fills in all of the company’s cheques to pay our lovely suppliers (which Barney begrudgingly has to sign!!). So called Slasher because of her love for all things gory, Jean is without doubt Prezzybox’s biggest customer, purchasing at least 1 of every product we sell from mini winnies to climbing frames to test tube aliens. As she’s the lady that pays our suppliers she’s loved by them one and all and has therefore been privy to the most freebies from them!
	Arran - AKA - Rookie works alongside Barney in the Buying Dept and also helps out in Customer Services when required. He’s a keen footballer and currently manages Higham under 14s Football Club. Now, it’s a good job he manages the team as he’s not the greatest footballer in the World. I’m not saying he’s got two left feet but last time he went to a shoe shop he came back with a pair of flip flips!
	Colin - AKA the Silver Fox - works in Customer Services alongside his good lady wife (and my favourite auntie) Sue. So called Silver Fox coz of his silver barnet Colin professes to be the office comedian. Unfortunately nobody else professes that he is the office Comedian.
	Sue - AKA Spud. I’ve no idea why Sue’s called Spud, but she honestly looks nothing like a potato. Sue works with Colin (the non-comedian) in the Customer Services Dept. As my mom’s sister, Sue’s another person who will escape my verbal banter, as the silent treatment from my Mom (Sylvie Cheese - see below) is a fate worse than death!!
Phew! So there you have it. You’ve officially met the team. Over the next few weeks/months I’ll hopefully give you more of an insight into the goings on at prezzybox.com HQ. However, before I do that, and for you to understand the whole picture I need to introduce you to 2 more members of the team - Namely Johnny E and Sylvie Cheese (Mom and Dad) - or, as they are alternatively known, the French Office…
John - AKA - Johnny E - works alongside Barney in the buying Dept. Now, you’ll have noticed that we’ve got a lot of gift buyers for such a small company. This is to compensate for the copious amount of holidays that Barney goes on. He literally has to book a day ‘in’ as opposed to booking a day off. Johnny E officially retired some years ago, but still likes to keep his hand in and spends hours in front of his computer doing far too many tasks to mention.
Sylvia - AKA - Sylvie Cheese is my lovely Mom. Other than look after Johnny E, Sylvie Cheese helps with the site editing and also writes some news stories for us. Sylv is also the office agony aunt (as she’s the most understanding woman ever!!) and spends many an hour listening to staff problems and perils!

Welcome to Prezzyblog!

Hello folks,

Welcome to Prezzyblog. You’ll probably notice with our cunning play on words (and the link from our home page) that this is the link for prezzybox.com. We’re a UK based company selling a veritible cornucpia of wonderous gifts, gadgets and goodies for all the family.

Anyway, that’s the sales pitch over with! I’m Zak and I started Prezzybox many moons ago. I’ll be the primary contributor to the blog and I’ll be talking about all the goings on at the Mighty box, great new goodies and anything that takes my fancy. I’ve also told the staff that they’ll be getting a mention too…

So, for now this is me signing out. I’ll be back pretty soon with tales of insightfulness from PB.HQ. Until then. Ciao!
